At the end of September, Poetry Alive! - a performance group from North Carolina, performed for the students in grades 5-8. The actors then visited classrooms and taught them how to interpret poetry through performance. I hope that the older students will be able to perform poetry for the younger ones during Poetry Month, April 2010.
As part of the poetry unit being studies, Grade 8 students will take part in the Favorite Poem Project which will also include faculty and parents (start thinking about a favorite poem).
Besides studying poetry, students are also writing original poems...some are good enough for publication. I am looking into young people's magazines for poetry.
On November 13, Grades 7 and 8 will be visiting the Museum of Science in Boston. Details will fall.
Grade 8 students are busy preparing for the High School Placement Test. The Algebra I curriculum contains all of the algebra needed for the test.
Please have your child take the test even if you think he/she will be going to public school.
Students in both grades 7 and 8 will participate in the Letters About Literature program. We will begin working on the letters in a few weeks. Maybe this year we will have a winner!
I also want to remind you that math help is on Wednesday mornings from 7:30-8:00 A.M.
