Homework:

Each day students will be responsible to copy down all of their homework in their Homework Notebook which is written on the board.

Students will receive about forty-five minutes to an hour of homework Monday-Thursday. All assignments are to be completed and returned the next day.  It is the child’s job to do their own homework, but it is your job to make sure it is completed. Excessive missed homework will be reflected in the child’s grade. There is also a homework all-star chart. This chart is designed to give students the motivation to complete their homework each night.  If the student completes each homework assignment in a given time, they will receive a “no homework pass” which entitles them to miss one homework assignment. For each assignment that is missed, the child will receive a Homework Happening, which needs to be signed by a parent and returned to school the next day.

Reading:

It is suggested that fourth graders read every night for about twenty minutes. This will enhance vocabulary and make the students better readers.

Behavior Policy:

Traffic Light!  Green, Yellow, Red!

In the classroom there is a traffic light system for behavior.  If the child is behaving well they will stay on the color green.  If they are misbehaving as an individual they will move their name to yellow.  If the child misbehaves again in the same day, they will move their name to red and lose recess and also write a letter of apology.

Tardiness/Absences

If a child is tardy three times, they will miss the special of the day. They are also responsible for making up any worked they missed.  If a child is absent, they must make up all work and send it in the next day. If work is not made up by the next day, their grade will start to decrease.

Tests:

Children will be notified when tests are given. Tests will be stapled together on Fridays and should be returned back to school on Tuesdays if the grade is below a 60%. Test papers must be signed by a parent.

Projects:

To increase learning, small projects will be assigned throughout the year.  Some projects may be done individually or by a group.

Birthdays:

If you would like to bring cupcakes the day of your child’s birthday we will have a little celebration at snack time. Please do not give your child invitations to pass out in the school yard or in class unless you are going to invite the entire class.

Helpful Hints for Parents:

Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest! This will ensure you that your child will be able to work to his/her own potential everyday in the classroom.

Have your child bring a snack everyday along with a lunch or lunch money. No drinks are allowed at snack time.

Encourage your child to work to their full potential.

Praise your child for doing well and working to the best of their ability.

Be involved in your child's life. Ask them about each school day!

Please feel free to contact me any time at school. You can also e-mail me at tmerlina@saseverett.com

I am looking forward to a great year ahead!
