Homework:

Students will receive about forty-five minutes to an hour of homework Monday-Thursday. All assignments are to be completed and returned the next day.  It is the child’s job to do his/her own homework, but it is your job to make sure it is completed. If a child misses 2 homework assignments his/her grade will drop 3 points, if he/she miss 3 he/she will lose 5 points, 4 points he/she will lose 7 points, and 5 he/she will lose ten points.  For each assignment that is missed, he/she will receive a Homework Happening, which needs to be signed by a parent and returned to school the next day with the completed homework.

Reading:

It is suggested that fourth graders read every night for about twenty minutes. This will enhance their vocabulary skills and make the students better readers.

Behavior Policy: Traffic Light!  Green, Yellow, Red!

In the classroom we have a traffic light system to monitor student’s behavior.  If the child is behaving well he/she will stay on the color green.  If he/she is misbehaving again, he/she will move his/her name to yellow.  If a child misbehaves again in the same day, he/she will move his/her name to red, have a note sent home to the parent to be signed, lose recess and also write a letter of apology.

Tardiness/Absences

If a child is tardy three times, he/she will miss art, gym, library or computer. He/she is also responsible for making up any missed work.  If a child is absent, he/she must make up all work and send it in the next day. If work is not made up by the next day, his/her grade will start to decrease. All announced tests are to be made up the day the child returns to school. It is the student’s responsibility to ask the teacher what work he/she needs to make up. In addition, if a child goes on vacation there is no makeup. The student will receive a failing grade for any test they have missed.

Tests:

All tests are scheduled ahead of time to ensure that the students are prepared and have plenty of time to study. Children are always notified when tests are given. Corrected tests and quizzes will be stapled together on Fridays and should be returned back to school on Tuesdays. Test papers must be signed by a parent.

Projects:

To increase learning, small projects will be assigned throughout the year.  Some projects may be done individually or by a group.

Birthdays:

If you would like to bring cupcakes the day of your child’s birthday, we will have a little celebration at snack time. If you plan a party for your child, please do not give pass out invitations in the classroom or schoolyard unless you are going to invite the entire class. A class list is available at the school office.

Helpful Hints for Parents:

Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest! This will ensure you that your child will be able to work to his/her own potential everyday in the classroom.

Have your child bring a snack everyday along with a lunch or lunch money. No drinks are allowed at snack time.

Encourage your child to work to his/her full potential.

Praise your child for doing well and working to the best of his/her ability.

Be involved in your child's life. Ask him/her about each school day!

Please feel free to contact me at anytime. If you would like to schedule an appointment please call me at school. I am looking forward to a great year ahead!
